Curcumin ameliorates oxidative stress in red blood cells during ageing

An essential dietary flavonoid known as curcumin has positive health effects and inhibits the synthesis of reactive oxygen species (ROS). The aim this study is to look at signs oxidative stress in red blood cells (RBCs) treated with a function age. A total 116 healthy volunteers ranging age from 20 81 years provided clinically pertinent samples for investigation. Three groups subjects were created: young (20 35 years), middle (36 60 old (>60 years). Oxidative was induced vitro by incubating RBCs 10-5M tert-butyl hydroperoxide (t-BHP). Malondialdehyde reduced glutathione detected co-incubating (10-8 M 10-5 final concentration) t-BHP assess effect curcumin. After being incubated t-BHP, results revealed higher MDA levels (P <0.001) comparison their respective controls GSH level significantly decreased during ageing.
